Ik volg al héél lang de (positieve!) blog van Jelle: SoChicken. De blognaam is al geweldig, maar de artikelen zijn dat ook. En laatst kwam ik een interessant artikel tegen. Het heette ‘Game of Thrones of levensgeluk’. En het gaat over Jelles haat-liefdeverhouding met series. En over dat binge-watchen niet oké is.
Voordat je verder leest: lees dus even dit artikel over ‘series kijken of levensgeluk‘. Interessant artikel hè? Het laat je wel nadenken.
Ik kijk dus geen series
En elke keer als mijn vriendinnen het over series hebben, denk ik: misschien is het toch wel leuk. Gewoon even lekker ontspannen en een serie opzetten. Net als een goed boek, maar dan ‘makkelijker’. Want boeken lees ik bijna nooit, omdat het me zoveel tijd en moeite kost. Dus ja: ik denk er serieus weleens aan om series te gaan kijken, maar begin er niet aan omdat ik al zo weinig tijd heb. Zelfs nu in de vakantie, haha. Bloggen en werken kost al aardig wat tijd! Ik zoek ook echt naar ‘ruimte’ om leuke dingen te gaan doen, dus die series passen daar echt niet bij. Uit bloggen haal ik sowieso al veel voldoening.
Binge-watchen
Ik vraag me niet per se af waarom mensen series kijken. Het lijkt me eigenlijk best leuk. Wanneer ik het dan wel ’te veel’ vind? Als mensen serie na serie kijken. Binge-watchen dus. Ik weet niet echt de grens tussen gewoon meerdere afleveringen achter elkaar kijken of echt binge-watchen trouwens. Maar laten we zeggen dat ik langer dan 2 uur al vrij lang vind. Zelf kijk ik soms ook meerdere filmpjes op Youtube achter elkaar. Maar meestal is het één video van een kwartier. Soms twee. Stel dat je die regel aanhoudt met iets als 13 Reasons Why, dan ben je al aardig wat tijd kwijt als je één à twee afleveringen kijkt.
Wat is je tijd ‘beter’ gebruiken?
Nu denk je misschien: die mening in het artikel waar ik naar linkte, was vrij extreem. Hoezo je tijd beter gebruiken? Het lijkt alsof Jelle zegt dat je geen levensgeluk kunt krijgen als je veel series kijkt. Maar dat extreme laten zien, wat Jelle in zijn artikel doet, is juist beter. Natúúrlijk is het niet zo dat iedereen zo verslaafd is aan tv-kijken. Hij schudt mensen gewoon wakker.
Misschien is tv-kijken (of netflixen) juist wel iets waar je blij van wordt! Vooral blijven doen in dat geval. Al denk ik dat je meer bereikt als je na een uurtje series kijken iets anders gaat doen. Iets waar je verder mee kan komen. Snap je wat ik bedoel? Sporten (of iets anders waar je beter in of door wordt) of bloggen (of iets anders waarmee je creatieve dingen creëert). Eigenlijk iets waar je voldoening uithaalt en energie door krijgt. En die series die komen daarna wel, aan het einde van de dag of zo 🙂
Mijn mening: wel series kijken, niet binge-watchen
Mijn mening? Ik denk dat je alleen ‘gelukkig’ wordt (om het even zo te noemen als Jelle van SoChicken) van series kijken als je het met mate doet. Elke vrijdagmiddag, en ’s avonds in het weekend. Zo gaat het niet lijken op binge-watchen. Ik kijk bijvoorbeeld geen tv, maar als er weer een nieuw seizoen van Mindfuck is, dan kijk ik dat iedere zaterdag. Dan heb ik iets om naar uit te kijken. En soms als er een leuke gast is bij de Wereld Draait Door, dan kijk ik dat ook. Is er daarna een andere, minder interessante gast aan het woord, dan stop ik met kijken. Ik heb meer te doen, denk ik dan. Meestal is het dan al avond en ga ik blogs lezen of zelf bloggen. Daarmee kom je verder in mijn ogen, al is een avondje series kijken natuurlijk ook niet verkeerd 😉
Over wat ik zo ga zeggen, zul je vast wel denken: “Eva, hoe kom je daar nou bij?” Nou, daar dacht ik gewoon aan oké. En dat is het volgende. Series kijken kun je vergelijken met eten: je kunt alles eten, maar eet niet te veel. Vergelijk de filmduur maar met calorieën en neem er niet te veel van per dag.
En ja: ik lees veel blogs. Maar niet zoveel uren achter elkaar dat ik het, in geval van series, binge-watchen zou noemen. Nu wil ik niet zeggen dat series kijken tijdverspilling is. Misschien vinden anderen blogs lezen wel tijdverspilling, haha. Zo heeft iedereen zijn mening. Jelle van SoChicken vindt het nieuws bijhouden tijdverspilling – daar ben ik het dan wél mee eens.

Ik begrijp je mening, al ben ik zelf en extreme seriekijker. Er gaat vaak een heel seizoen door op 1 weekend. De reden van deze verslaving is gewoon dat ik mezelf vaak ook echt in de serie plaats. Het is een van de weinige dingen die mij laat ontsnappen van de wereld en mijn gevecht ermee. Ik ga ook gewoon naar school, heb 2 blogs, huiswerk en testen waar ik voor moet leren en spreek ook nog eens vaak af met vrienden en vriendinnen. Vraag me alsjeblieft niet hoe ik dat allemaal gedaan krijg want dat weet ik ook niet. Daarnaast kijk ik ook gewoon veel series zodat ik daar over kan schrijven op mijn tweede blog, dus voor mij is series kijken een soort van 2 vliegen in 1 klap. Ik kan ontsnappen en ik heb iets om over te schrijven. Mijn punt is eigenlijk gewoon dat iedereen zijn tijd gewoon heerlijk zelf invult en dat vind ik nu net leuk, anders zou iedereen maar dezelfde dingen delen op social media, toch?
