Naar de tuinen van Appeltern met mijn 94-jarige oudtante (inclusief grote FAIL)
Oké, laten we maar meteen beginnen met een megagrote fail! Toen we waren aangekomen bij de tuinen van Appeltern en de auto geparkeerd hadden, wilden we naar de entree lopen. Er stond een bordje dat het nog 400 meter lopen was, en rechts stonden rolstoelen om te lenen. Dus het leek ons een goed plan om een rolstoel te pakken voor tante Dit. Zo gezegd, zo gedaan..
Tante Dit ging zitten en ik ging duwen. Maar dat ding reed zó zwaar! Echt niet normaal. Alsof je een rolstoel tegen een berg opduwt en tante Dit stiekem 30 kilo bakstenen in haar handtasje mee had genomen. Nee, dit was echt niet handig. Tante Dit vond de rolstoel ook niet fijn omdat het zo stroef ging, dus we hadden de rolstoel – na 400 meter duwen, ahum – bij de entree achtergelaten en gingen lopend door de tuinen van Appeltern.
Toen we teruggingen, moest de rolstoel natuurlijk weer mee naar waar we hem hadden gehaald. En ja hoor, daar kwam ik erachter: dat ding stond op de rem. Ja, ik heb die rolstoel 400 meter geduwd terwijl hij op de rem stond. En ja, je mag me uitlachen nu. HOE DOM. Waardoor ik het niet had gezien? Die rolstoel had twee “stangen”, waarvan ik de onderste gebruikte om te duwen. Maar het was dus de bedoeling om de bovenste stang naar beneden te duwen, waardoor hij van de rem afging. Hallo, hoe moest ik dat weten? De terugweg ging dus véél makkelijker, en gelukkig maar, want dit had ik anders echt niet volgehouden, haha.
Nadat we hadden betaald om naar de tuinen te gaan, gingen we eerst wat eten. Sinds ik ooit pecanbroodjes heb geproefd, ben ik echt verkocht. Die dingen zijn zo lekker! Dus we namen alle drie (ja m’n moeder was ook mee) een pecanbroodje.
En toen gingen we naar de tuinen.
Het idee van die tuinen is dat je inspiratie opdoet voor je eigen tuin. Het zijn eigenlijk allemaal verschillende tuinen, maar toch sluiten ze op elkaar aan waardoor het één grote tuin wordt. Snap je me nog?
Elke kikker die ik tegenkwam moest natuurlijk op de foto. M’n camera kan niet zo ver inzoomen, dus ik moest heel dichtbij komen. Gelukkig bleef hij zitten!
En hierna kwam mijn favoriete deel. VETPLANTJES.
Er stond dus zo’n kas met allemaal vetplantjes en andere leuke planten. M’n moeder en tante Dit liepen al door, maar de blogger in me kwam naar boven *ahum* dus ik móést foto’s hebben van die vetplantjes. En van de rest natuurlijk.
Natuurlijk was de tuin nog véél groter: er waren meer dan 200 voorbeeldtuinen die samen één grote tuin vormden. Volgens mij hebben we niet alles gezien, maar wel veel. Toen we genoeg hadden gezien liepen we naar de uitgang, waar we eerst nog planten tegenkwamen die je kon kopen.

Dit waren een paar van de (bijzondere) planten die je bij de uitgang kon kopen. Wist je dat er een plant bestaat die naar chocolade ruikt? Ik wel, want wij hebben die zelf ook in de tuin, maar misschien wisten jullie dat nog niet 🙂
Als je nog wat verder liep, was er nog een soort souvenir winkeltje. In dat winkeltje mocht ik iets uitzoeken, daar schreef ik gisteren al een artikel over. Ik zocht een superschattig notitieboekje uit!
Toen we terugkwamen uit de tuinen aten we nog iets, het was heel simpel allemaal maar wel lekker 🙂
Die dag was heel gezellig en tante Dit zei ook dat ze het superleuk vond. Zelf vond ik het ook heel leuk, maar het deel met die vetplantjes enzo is toch meer mijn ding. En dat was maar een héél klein deel van de tuinen, wat ik wel jammer vond. Zet mij af in een tuincentrum bij de cactussen en vetplantjes en ik ben net zo gelukkig 🙂 Maar dit is toch wel véél gezelliger.
